Four Years, Eighty People, And Over One Million Spiders...

"The silk fiber was gathered from the female golden orb spider (Nephila madagascariensis) ... These spiders are found throughout the tropics and are known as golden orb weavers for their big, gold-colored webs."

An amazing textile woven exclusively from spider silk. I'm not sure what compelled people to resurrect an imperfect art (spider silking) from a century ago, but it's beautiful. It's important to note the spiders were not harmed, always being released back into the wild.

More pictures and a video at the above link.

Toys You Don't Want To See Under The Christmas Tree.

It's amazing how far some of this stuff goes. The mental Teddy Bears above are pretty mild compared to some. From toys a bit too suggestive, to those screaming racism, to those that emit harmful radiation, there's a lot here to make sure is not on your Christmas list.

Of course I love you the same. Why do you ask?

        Mom always liked you best.

It Glows In The Dark: Bioluminescent Organisms

Lots of us know about glow worms and fireflies (they're here, too), but there are other exquisite living things that create their own light. From the beautiful and delicate sea creatures above -- first described only 30 years ago -- to glowing mushrooms or plankton, once again nature is putting on a show for us to see.

See more photos at the above link.

        Rare and Unique Lobsters

This is great stuff. For example, the Yeti lobster (above) was so rare it needed its own species family and genus just to name it.

At the link above you'll also find blue, yellow, and even two-tone lobsters. Lots of pictures and videos as well.

        Kids and pets.

You know, the pet always gets the short end of the stick in these kinds of photos. Cute, though.

You have to admire an animal that can sleep anywhere

You can't take over the world without a good night's sleep, and cats are the masters at it. Anywhere, anytime, 18 hours a day. They're ready. I for one welcome our new cat overlords.
