Dear Criminals, Please Stop Breaking Into My Car…
I hope this worked, because I like it. The crowbar drawing is an especially nice touch.
Tom Reestman // Hello and welcome to my twin blogs:
I hope this worked, because I like it. The crowbar drawing is an especially nice touch.
From $150 Million to $200 Billion, here are the top 10 most expensive accidents. The $3.4B Piper Alpha oil rig above comes in at #5 on the list. See the rest at the link above.

How great is this? Six thousand Australians (from a reported 190,000 applicants) were chosen to enjoy Sunday morning breakfast on the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
This was not a trivial thing. Aside from shutting the bridge down, you can see they laid grass across the entire span upon which to sit and enjoy the meal. What a cool thing for a major city to do! More pictures at the above link.
By the way, no one back then voted for Agatha Christie, who is now probably the most frequently read of the British writers from that era.
Interesting results of a poll 80 years ago regarding what authors people thought would still be read in 2029. With 20 years to go, it appears our powers of prognostication are as accurate (i.e., not very) as ever.
Truth is, one never knows what will survive, and it's usually not anything recognized as such in its time. Kind of makes you leery of those alleged "classic rock" stations, doesn't it?
The only thing I know for sure about a work becoming a "classic" is that it must first survive the generation that spawned it. If younger people don't pick it up, it's not going anywhere no matter how many old farts continue to proclaim its greatness.
Physicist Axel Mellinger pieced together this image of the night sky out of 3,000 individual images. Mellinger traveled 26,000 miles, taking images in South Africa, Texas and Michigan, then added data from two space probes. Yes, it's hardcore.
I watched carefully the reporting of the Dow breaking 10,000 the other day and not anywhere did I see a major news organization include a paragraph of the “On the other hand, so fucking what?” sort...
Bingo. You'd think all we had to do was hit 10K on the floor of the exchange and all our problems would be over. Foreclosures? No more. Layoffs? Done. Consumer spending? Up, up, up.
Except it's not happening.
Obviously, the Dow rising is not a bad thing, but it's hardly the only thing. And it's not much consolation to those who took a beating in their portfolio when it used to be at 14K+. Bottom line is "recovery" does not just mean recovery for Wall Street.

I love this kind of stuff. Making use of the viewer's intended point of view and perspective to create an illusion.
When viewed from the targeted point, it appears as a specific object represented in space (in the example above, a line seeming to bounce up and down). But when viewed from other angles, you see how it was actually painted to give the intended effect.

I don't care of this nine-year old boy can ever make this shot again, he did it once and it's awesome! It's even more incredible in slow motion.
